Why our AI is allowed to stay quiet on slow weeks
Most competitive intelligence tools manufacture filler when nothing happened. The recommender's permission to be silent is a feature, not a bug.

What we collect, and why.

Short version: we collect the minimum we need to run the product. We do not sell your data. We do not run ad trackers. If you want your data gone, send an email and we will delete it.

Last updated 3 June 2026.

Who runs bitsbeacon

Bitsbeacon is built by a small team of passionate business and technical experts. The site lives at bitsbeacon.com. The server is a virtual machine hosted by OVH in Singapore. You can reach a human at alex@bitsbeacon.com.

What we collect

When you ask for a free brief

The onboarding form asks for your name, your work email, your company name, and your company website. We use these to build the brief and email it back to you. We keep them so you can come back and view your brief later.

When you visit a brief page

Every time someone opens a brief, we log the time, the path, the referring page, the browser user agent, and the network address of the request. We also set one cookie, bb_visitor, that contains a random identifier (no name, no email). The cookie lasts one year. We use it to group views by the same browser, so we can see which sections of a brief get read and which get ignored. That is the only cookie we set.

When you click on a brief

If you hover a card for more than a moment, vote on a card, or leave a comment, we save that event next to your random cookie identifier. This tells us which findings landed and which did not. It is not joined to any name or email unless you also signed in or asked for a brief from the same browser.

When you sign in or use the contact form

The sign in form sends us the email you typed, plus the time and network address of the request. The contact form sends us the fields you filled in plus a reCAPTCHA score from Google. Both go to the same database the briefs live in.

When we email you

Outbound mail goes through Fastmail. Transactional events such as delivery, opens, and link clicks come back to us through Resend webhooks and are stored against your record. If you do not want open tracking, tell us and we will turn it off for your address.

What we do not do

We do not run Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any other advertising or behavioural tracker. We do not sell your data. We do not share your brief, your comments, or your engagement data with anyone outside the team. We do not enrich your email against third party profile databases.

Who else sees your data

To run the product we send small slices of data to a short list of providers. Each one only sees what it needs:

  • Fastmail — sends and receives email on our behalf.
  • Resend — handles transactional email events (delivery, opens, link clicks).
  • Bright Data — fetches public web pages while we research a brand. We send public URLs. We do not send your data to them.
  • Anthropic — the language model that turns research notes into card text. We send the public research and the brand context. We do not send your email, your name, or your cookie identifier.
  • Google reCAPTCHA — anti spam check on the contact form only. Loads on the /contact page.
  • Stripe — will handle paid subscriptions once paid plans go live. Card details go directly to Stripe and never touch our servers.
  • OVH — runs the virtual machine that hosts everything above.

How long we keep things

Briefs, prospects, and engagement events stay for as long as the account is open. If you ask us to delete, we delete the record and the cookie identifier within seven days. Backups roll off after thirty days.

Your rights

Email alex@bitsbeacon.com if you want to:

  • see what we have on file for you
  • export it
  • delete the record entirely
  • opt out of email open tracking
  • be added to our do not email list

We reply within a few working days. There is no form to fill in and no ticket queue.

Changes

If this page changes in a way that affects what we collect or who sees it, we will email everyone with an active account before the change takes effect.
